At Beatbox we think the ability to understand music goes hand in hand with learning an instrument. We’re big on learning to read music, and encourage our students to develop an appreciation for the mechanics and structure of music too.
““A great venue for learning! There’s a real musical community happening here.”"
We feel that knowing the theory and the technicalities of music can help to unlock creativity and also gives you the ability to clearly communicate and articulate your ideas to those you play music with – in particular to band mates!
Complicated - Avril Lavigne
Island in the sun - Weezer
R u mine-Arctic Monkeys / I bet you look good on the dance floor - Arctic Monkeys
Since u been gone - Kelly Clarkson
We didn't start the fire - Fall Out Boy
Nice to each other / So Easy To Fall In Love - Olivia Dean
Still into you / The Only Exception - Paramore
Teenage dirtbag - Wheatus

Scar tissue / Can’t Stop - Red Hot Chilli Peppers
At Beatbox, we aim to encourage students to build the confidence to perform in front of an audience while developing their ensemble skills in a live band setting. We find that many students often don’t get the opportunity to play with other musicians, so our band workshops provide a valuable opportunity for students to gain experience and grow together as musicians.
“I think that band groups are a really good chance for people to come and play together, improving their playing ability, as well as their confidence in everyday life.”
Chloe (Beatbox guitar student)
What makes our workshops special…
At Beatbox, we aim to encourage students to build the confidence to perform in front of an audience while developing their ensemble skills in a live band setting. We find that many students often don’t get the opportunity to play with other musicians, so our band workshops provide a valuable opportunity for students to gain experience and grow together as musicians.
Tailoring our approach…
Students have the opportunity to enter for the guitar grade exams or performance awards, although we stress that this is not a necessity, as we tailor lessons to suit the needs and preferences of the student. We don’t believe in studying an instrument just to pass exams, but we do believe in playing to the best of your ability.
Our guitar tutors will be happy to help if you ever need any help or guidance with finding a suitable instrument. You can also find our thoughts on When is the best age to start learning a musical instrument? and Why we think learning an instrument is beneficial plus other helpful articles on our Beatbox blog.
